Born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1959, David Patterson's interest in art began at a very young age. From his fathers influence as a pastel artist he was exposed to original art while growing up. Although having drawn and painted throughout his teens and early 20's it was going to art school that became a major turning point in his life as an artist. Another influence in his life was the continual exposure to music and musical instruments. Again at a very early age he was playing musical instruments from the drums to trumpet and then to guitar which is now his main instrument for musical expression.

"The beauty of art and music is that it's a universal language that anyone in the world can understand and appreciate. Words are just too limiting. Both art and music is totally open to the audience interpretation and there can be no misunderstanding since there is no right or wrong answer."

Since graduating from Art School in 1988 David Patterson has been continually exploring and painting on a regular basis. He has managed to create a large body of work and has developed a unique style working with sand and oils. He creates a texture that captures the light and brings out the form with even greater depth. David's style continues to evolve but his work always reflects nature and the natural forces in some way. He has had showings of his art in numerous galleries & festivals including, The Surrey Art Gallery, The Pitt Gallery, Arnold Mikelson Mind and Matter Gallery, and 'Images & Objects' a juried show for the B.C. Festival of the Arts as well as commercial galleries such as The Nakai Gallery on Salt Spring Island, B.C. You my find his works in private and corporate collections throughout B.C. and Alberta. His home and studio is located in downtown Vancouver and is presently represented by Art Works Gallery located at 225 Smithe St., Vancouver, B.C.
